a photograph of you

What I'm doing right now?

I'm taking a looong trip down memory lane by sifting through old slides that FantasticoDad hauled out of the back of a cupboard.  These date back to 1989! Cue NHS pink glasses, ridiculous hair, batwing jackets and converse trainers.

I took this project on with gusto, and bought a little slide viewer for a twenty quid on Amazon and attempted to organize the images from a trip to, the fatherland, Grenada, jaunts around tourist London, birthday parties and family visits...oh yeah and the trundles of various beaches and flowers that FantasticoDad loved to bore us to tears with.

Admittedly, it was a good laugh at first. The first evening was spent interrupting GeordieLad's TV viewing with 'Look at my hair, ha ha ha look at my Dad, oh I remember that top, look how young my Grandparents are'. But this hilarity quickly became long bouts of silence, a very sad silence as I looked back on a time that really was carefree and full of time. And full of my mum.

It's ok - no need for sorrow - Mum is still definitely here, alive and kicking. But in the words of Sir Cliff - it's so funny, that we don't talk anymore - except no, Sir Cliff, it's not funny. It's a bit bloody rubbish actually. We haven't spoken in 4 years.  And trawling through these slides I just remembered that there were good times. And she did love me.

Now the slides are organised and ready to head off to Snappy Snaps to convert them to photos for FantasticoDad before he heads off to sunnier climes.  And also to archive my youth for the 3G to have a giggle at mummy's funny clothes and to marvel that yes, she did once have a waist and no evidence of a cake-baby in her tummy.
